I work for a hospital in Milwaukee that is a level 1 trauma center. This means that any mass disaster or trauma cases come to us.
On Wednesday a drill was done in collaboration with hospital staff, local emergency response agencies and federal/military personnel. The exercise was part of the United States Government Homeland Defense initiative and was the first in the country where civilians and military personnel trained together to prepare for a widespread mass casualty event requiring decontamination.
This was the largest full-scale exercise in the United States in 2009 and it was fun to watch!!
The green tents were where the decontamination was done.
The yellow suits are the haz-mat suits. Good thing it wasn't 90 degress outside!!
The large glass building in this picture is the Cancer Center at Froedtert where I work.
Here is a link to a video about the event: Mass Disaster Drill
Interesting! I remember when I was a teenager we were "pretend" people in one of those mock disasters...we had to pretend something was hurt, etc. It was really weird as a kid, I'm sure the whole thing was a bit strange to watch.
